Banning sham marriages
In Denmark, sham marriages are prohibited.
This means that a marriage must not be entered into if there is reason to suspect that the purpose of the marriage is to obtain the right of residence in Denmark, an EU country, in Switzerland, or in another country covered by the European Economic Area.
We may enquire about your relationship
Because of the prohibition against sham marriages, we will inquire about your personal relationship, e.g. for how long you have known each other, where you met each other, whether you have children together, whether you live or have previously lived together and so forth.
During the processing of your application we may contact you if we have questions or require additional information. We may also invite you to an interview if we believe there is a need for this.
