International marriages

An international marriage is when a Danish citizen intends to marry a non-Danish citizen, or when individuals from outside Denmark wish to marry within Denmark.

Before proceeding with your marriage, you must obtain a Certificate of Marital Status. This document verifies that you meet the requirements set out in the Danish Marriage Act.

You should apply for a Certificate of Marital Status either through the Agency of Family Law or the local municipality. Where to submit your application depends on both your nationalities and your basis for residence in Denmark. Please choose the scenario that best matches your situation as a couple to read more about the marriage requirements and application process.
